Q: As a novice bodybuilder (almost half year) would you recommend GetStrong workout for overall mass?
GetStrong is a workout for strength. It’s designed primarily to make you stronger not bigger. Muscles grow more as a by-product during it but it’s not an objective.
However because from training to training we increase the load – squat goes up 60lbs (30kg) each month, bench press +30lbs (15kg) – muscles will have to adapt to heavier weight over time and therefore your whole body will grow.
Problems of young bodybuilders
Many young bodybuilders focus too much on typical muscle building routines, where we train with moderate intensity (65%-85% of our max.) and in middle repetition range (12-6). Generally it’s good. This is the way we build muscles. But after several months the whole process stops completely. Our bodies get used to the same type of training and therefore we are hitting the plateau – we are not growing and we are not getting any stronger.
Another thing is that typical bodybuilding training causes only small gains in strength and as you know to make muscles grow we have to continuously get stronger. Constant progress is necessary. There’s no other way about it.
So even that GetStrong workout isn’t the best way to build muscle mass I do strongly recommend for you to do it. You will avoid the plateau and become unbelievably stronger. After two months your friends will think that you are taking steroids. Every muscle of your body will grow. It will turn you from a boy to the man. You’ll become bigger, harder and more confident for life.
When you’ll finish it and start ordinary muscle building routine, you’ll be able to attack your muscles with much heavier weight. It will cause noticeable growth of muscle mass nearly immediately. As you probably heard more strength = more muscles.
GetStrong for anybody
Generally, I recommend GetStrong workout for anybody during any stage of weight training. It’s great for men, women, even for people just starting bodybuilding. I can’t express how effective it is. If you train already for a couple years but can’t bench press or squat your body weight you have to do it, otherwise you’ll never get big.
